About Mike

Writer/Editor Mike Peterson has been a professional writer for morethan 30 years. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he studied classical literature, philosophy and the history of science. He has also taken graduate courses in education.

Over the years, Mike has worked in television, radio and newspapers, as well as writing for advertising agencies and magazines. He has won awards as a business writer, newspaper reporter and columnist, and created a presentation on editorial cartoons for students that the International Newspaper Marketing Association named best public service by any newspaper in the world under 50,000 daily circulation.

Mike has an extensive background in Newspapers-in-Education, having run two different programs at mid-sized papers over more than a dozen years, during which time he was also a frequent presenter at national and regional NIE conferences, a member of the steering committee for the New York Newspaper Publishers Association NIE program, served on the NIE advisory board for Lee Enterprises and was a columnist for NIE Information Service. He has also had columns on NIE published in Editor & Publisher and has been interviewed by that magazine on the topics of NIE and newspaper comic strips.

Currently, Mike is editor of the Franklin Journal, a twice-weekly rural newspaper in Farmington, Maine.
